Technical Service Agreement

KBC has the broad industry experience, tools, skill base and expertise to support the site management and engineers to meet the site needs for unit and site monitoring, optimization, reliability and personnel training. KBC skill base combined with KBC simulation technology is key to creating a tailored support program as part of a Technical Service Agreement (TSA) .

A TSA can cover one or all key areas:

  • Digital transformation and operational performance.
  • Asset management including mechanical and process reliability.
  • Value Chain Planning including LP optimization and asset profitability.
  • Process Operations including training, monitoring, optimization, development projects and new renewable technologies application, benchmarking and catalyst selection.
  • Energy including pinch studies, network optimization, carbon footprint reduction.
  • Simulation technology and the use of cutting-edge tools for optimization and asset utilization

Benefits of the KBC Technical Service Agreement

Flexibility

The TSA is KBC’s approach to delivering both a pro-active and as-required technical advice and is a way for clients to access KBC support quickly. The TSA can be used to provide any service within KBC’s portfolio, for example, urgent troubleshooting, incident investigation or design advice, and is flexible enough to accommodate larger business services, for example, capital project development support, or a multi-year margin improvement program.

Technical Hotline

KBC’s Technical Hotline (THL) gives clients access to our subject matter expert consultants to ask technical questions via email. The queries can relate to any technological-economic aspect of the refinery or petrochemical plant. In addition, a project extranet is set up allowing easy, secure transfer of documents, which becomes a knowledge base as the TSA program progresses.

Stewardship Approach

We help our clients to pre-define a scope of work, discuss concerns and needs, and more importantly receive knowledge from KBC consultants. KBC and our clients become a joint team, through regular contact and information sharing. The outcome is a mutual understanding of site operations and objectives, and diligence to reach applicable solutions. The services can include any scope from KBC's portfolio.

Troubleshooting Visits

With our global network, KBC can provide 24-hour emergency consulting, and troubleshooting visits by our experts. A robust TSA program includes regular site visits to cover multiple agreed topics and dedicated site visits.

KBC has subject matter expertise capability in a majority of site technologies to help with unit optimization, upgrading projects as well as troubleshooting operational issues. KBC also has the capability to benchmark the units versus industry. KBC adds great value in process and catalyst selection having an unbiased view of technologies. KBC can also provide project development support in all areas from planning / screening through technology selection and design.

For over 40 years, KBC has delivered projects that have reduced our client’s energy costs by 15% to 25%, improved their margins, and significantly reduced Scope 1 emissions. Using KBC's systematic and focused approach to energy efficiency improvements, our experienced consultants powered by our leading technology have helped our clients avoid over 400 million tons of CO2 emissions. This has been accomplished by using our ‘best technology’ benchmarking and gap analysis to set realistic targets, identify and implement ‘quick win’ operational improvements as well as define capital projects.

Whether you license KBC's simulation technology or not, within the TSA, we leverage our first principles models to provide insight where required. Simulation Tools enable full modelling of the site and can include design, reliability and corrosion monitoring capability to be able to fully understand operation and reliability of unit changes. In addition, new Renewable / Carbon footprint technologies can also be modelled as the technologies become available.

Meet our expert on Refining Process Technologies

"TSA support proved a very effective and fast response to a variety of Site needs. It brings a wealth of experience from many different operational practices which allow a more robust solution to be provide. A long-term support program also enables a team approach to be developed which leads to even better communications and site understanding. There is flexibility to adjust the agreement quickly as priorities change if the long-term goal of improving profitability and safety is still met. This close relationship leads also to improved site personnel know how as on the job training takes place with and without any formal sessions."
