About Derya

As the Development Team Lead, I work with a team of expert engineers to develop solutions that combine market needs with cutting-edge technology to help our customers improve their energy efficiency and guide them through their decarbonization journey. My responsibilities include coordinating R&D activities, implementing the development road maps, and ensuring timely delivery of our solutions while staying ahead of the curve with our state-of-the-art technology. I also consult on projects that require expertise in closed-loop optimization of energy systems.

My career began more than two decades ago at ExxonMobil Research & Engineering as an implementer of closed-loop real-time optimization technology for both process and energy systems. By using their resources and assets in the most cost-effective way in real time, I helped customers maximize the performance of their systems. This experience also served as an excellent opportunity to gain expertise in a variety of fields, including modeling and simulation using digital twins, real-time optimization, and advanced process control applications, with a focus on FCC units and energy systems. Using Visual MESA, we built and deployed several energy systems closed-loop real-time optimization applications for refineries and petrochemical plants. Over a decade ago, I joined the Visual MESA development team and I believe my experience has been instrumental in my contribution to the development of our solutions.

I hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University.  During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to work in the Process Dynamics and Control group at DuPont Chemicals.
