Solar PV sites are typically small and widely distributed, mostly un-manned and with little IT infrastructure. Data from the solar panels and inverters are collected locally in data loggers and monitored under contract by local O&M (operations and maintenance) service providers. Our customer needed a solution for monitoring their fleet of assets that is independent of the O&M provider’s own systems.
KBC’s supplied its Power*Share solution. Power*Share was configured to collect process data each site’s data logger via internet or cellular network (by-passing the O&M provider’s monitoring system). Data is stored in a hosted PI System where power generation actual vs potential can be analyzed by various dimensions such as financial portfolio, brand of PV panel, geography, etc. Power*Share’s portal presents standard dashboards and reports.
Power*Share has been rolled out to over 400 assets and now monitors 25% of commercial-scale solar PV generation in the USA. In some instances as local O&M providers have gone bankrupt or been displaced, Power*Share has been elevated to the system of record and the only means for the owner to monitor specific assets.
