Energy cost reduction

Repsol, Spain's largest energy company, approached KBC when they were looking for an energy management system for their Tarragona Refinery, an integrated refining and petrochemical site. The site had a production capacity of 186,000 b/d.

The challenge

The refinery wanted to reduce the total cost of its energy production and distribution. Cost optimization would need to be coordinated between units across the site.

Solution

KBC provided Visual MESA Energy Real Time Optimizer (VM-ERTO). Implementation included modeling, optimization and reports setup, training for engineers and operators as well as solution sustainability services.

The results

Energy costs were reduced by 4%. Additional, non-quantified benefits were obtained through energy performance monitoring and case studies performed with the Visual MESA tool.
