Main Aspects of Job:

  • Program Manager for significant projects undertaken by KBC’s Software R&D group globally and be responsible for preparing, monitoring and reporting on project progress
  • Manage multiple projects, guiding our team leads and scrum-masters through the Agile-based, stage-gated product development processes used by the company
  • Support organization to maintain timely and effective change management processes, procedures, and systems
  • Custodian for company’s implementation of Agile, working with QA to ensure its processes are documented and improved continuously and working with Product and R&D Management to ensure smooth fit with KBC’s overall stage-gated processes
  • Significant contributor to the improvement of KBC’s new R&D projects development process

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the weekly Scrum of Scrums meetings we hold, making sure progress is understood within and across teams and that risks are monitored and mitigated
  • Support scrum masters and team leads in running their scrums, backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprint demo and sprint retrospectives, running these meetings as needed
  • Awareness of capacity constraints and provide guidance on progress versus deadlines (many projects run on annual and longer cycles)
  • Report on plans/progress to project stage-gate meetings
  • Communicate progress in accordance with project communication plans
  • Conduct analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedules
  • Interact with project stakeholders
  • Guide company on toolset selection around R&D processes (tools used for source code control, defect management, test management, Agile program management) and design/manage projects to move toward common tooling in line with R&D tooling plan
  • Participate in the analysis of internal/external customer requirements and development of project design parameters to meet those requirements
  • Completion of work on schedule and within budget
  • Development and maintenance of good relationships with stakeholders to meet their satisfaction
  • Develops and Maintains awareness of KBC R&D Portfolio
  • Cost conscious and aware of personal contribution to company profitability
  • Understands company vision and is able to translate it into a journey for themselves/team colleagues
     

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is minimum in scientific, technical, engineering, or mathematical field.  Advanced degree preferred

  • Formal training in Agile project management

  • 7+ years’ experience working in a technical/R&D role in new product development or Stage Gate environment, preferably at least 3-5+ years managing cross-functional projects as a Project Manager

  • Previous knowledge running software development projects with distributed teams of 10 or more developers

  • Previous understanding of JIRA agile and JIRA portfolio an asset

  • Previous experience managing projects working with variety of development methodologies like RUP and AGILE

  • Strong organizational and planning skills required

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, teams and management at all levels within the organization is required

  • Experience of what it means to deliver software development projects on time, on budget and on quality and of the compromises required

  • Must be willing to travel and work outside normal working hours due to our global operations. 

  • Must be adaptable to the needs of the job, being willing to take on mundane tasks at times

  • Demonstration of high quality of technical ability / competence / productivity

  • Ability to work well in team environment under supervision and willingness to assist others by providing mentorship and coaching
